Welcome back for the 2016-2017 school year.  I am proud and honored to join the team of educators and staff as the assistant principal, in order to ensure the safety and highest possible standards of learning at Liberty City Elementary.  I have had the privilege of teaching for over eight years in Overtown and for working as a Curriculum Support Specialist for the last five years with the Education Transformation Office.  I am the mother of three young boys and I played and coached college tennis.  I look forward to a wonderful school year!

Greetings! My name is Jodye Scavella. I am truly honored and delighted to serve the students, teachers, parents, and our community as an Assistant Principal at Liberty City Elementary/Dr. Martin Luther King PLC during the 2015- 2016 school year. With eighteen years of experience as an educator, I am looking forward to utilizing my “tool box” to build "A" better future at Dr. Martin Luther King PLC (MLK) at Liberty City Elementary.

I look forward to a great year of working together to create a positive learning environment where all our students receive a quality education in a safe, secure and simulating environment.  Dr. Martin Luther King PLC (MLK) at Liberty City Elementary offers the Head Start Program 3 and 4 year old students, which includes Voluntary Prekindergarten or VPK. The Head Start Program, which includes VPK are grant funded programs that offer free, comprehensive services to eligible students and their families. The Voluntary Prekindergarten or VPK gives four year old students a jump start by preparing them for school and enhancing their pre-reading, pre-math, language and social skills. By developing the skills at an early age, students will become strong readers and more likely to be successful in school.
As I end, I am always here to assist you in any way I can. I look forward to and appreciate your continued support as well.

Sincerely,
Jodye Scavella
